In the shadows of Le Grand Départ I was sorry to hear the news that Brian Robinson, a true cycling and Yorkshire hero had been knocked off his bike and was in hospital with a broken clavicle, six broken ribs, a punctured lung and cuts and bruises.
For those who are unfamiliar with Brian and his achievements, he was the first Briton to win a stage of the Tour de France and the first to complete the whole tour back in 1958. He did have an earlier win in 1958 but that’s another story!
A couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to meet Brian when we commissioned an amazing portrait of him, beautifully shot by Richard Moran, for the Tour de France bid document we designed for Welcome to Yorkshire (see more in the projects section of our website). The photo shoot was full of Brians great stories and will be one of those moments that stays with me.
A huge amount of effort, time & favours went into the dual language document and we were extremely proud to have played our part in bringing the tour to the region and what an amazing event and experience it was.
Brian is a true gentleman and all at Thompson Brand Partners send him our thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on his bike soon.
Great to see Brian still smiling!
Brian Robinson back in the day showing his Yorkshire grit!
