What if artists (& Thompson) designed a hostel?

by Rachel Cook

Our friends at East Street Arts are currently in the midst of discovering the answer to that exact question and are nearly ready to share it with the world, opening the Art Hostel in Leeds in November/December 2015.

What is it?
The Art Hostel is a new venture, one that’s been a few years in the making, and like nothing else in Leeds. It will be entirely designed by and for artists, and no corner will be forgotten. It’s a great way of supporting local artists and also promises to give visitors to the city an opportunity to discover Leeds from a unique, alternative platform.

  • Where do we come in?
We’ll be flexing our design muscles, too, funding and designing one of the rooms in the hostel!

Apart from the bed and a couple of other bits, the room is ours to do whatever we like with, as long as we can achieve it within the fixed budget of £1,000 that we pledged and in about 4 weeks. It’s a bit like Challenge Anika meets Changing Rooms, albeit much cooler, with less budget and an extra week or two to play with. Just cross your fingers for fewer tears and 90s cow print bedspreads though…

To get involved in any way, you can find out more information on the Art Hostel Indiegogo page or by getting in touch with East Street Arts. You can also help to make sure this brilliant project gets off the ground by donating from as little as £10, which gets you a one-off illustrated shower cap (shower-proof-ness not guaranteed), all the way up to £600 which will get you the whole hostel for a night.

We’ll keep you updated with designs.
